About

Urban Artistik design company has a philosophy which is borne out of my years of experience as an architect, urban designer, university professor and small scale inner city developer.

Being a native of the Caribbean via the Island of Jamaica, I have an intrinsic love for traditional architecture and building practices. After studying architecture, town planning and urban design in the United States, and travelling to places as distant as South Africa, I realized that many cities and towns around the world are abandoning their traditional architectural and town/urban planning practices for more contemporary or “modern” solutions which seemed in the short term to satisfy a perceived need to look “new” and achieve “progress” but in the long term has torn the heart and soul out of many communities and neighbourhoods. We seek to use the love of culture, time honored traditions and local resources as the foundational template for architectural and planning design and construction.

We are located in Miami, Florida USA, the so-called gateway to the Americas. For us it is a perfect place to practice our philosophy; still connected to North America, but yet jutting out like a finger pointing to the Caribbean & Latin America, it is a crossroads between the first and the third world and between traditionality and modernity.
