What is the meaning of the word "TASTE" in relation to the material world?
ONE DEFINITION IS : "The faculty of discerning what is aesthetically excellent or appropriate."
Taste is a very subjective faculty in human beings, cultivated over time and influenced by such factors as environment, education and culture.
Taste can also reflect one's values and spiritual outlook.
At Urban Artistik design company, our taste in architecture, urban design and development is rooted in a love for traditions and innovations which celebrate genuine aspects of an area's local customs.
The vision came at the realization of the lack of choice and knowledge in the marketplace of an architectural product built with traditional materials in a traditional neighborhood; in the sense that a traditionally planned neighborhood offers residents a home and or business in an area that has access to daily activities within a five to ten minute walk, reducing the necessity for automobile traffic and fostering a sense of community.
In the sense of the architectural product; conventionally the majority of choice lies between a suburban tract model home, a high rise “luxury” condo apartment or, if one can afford it, a contractor “special” customized design-build production. These unsustainable products which are heavily promoted and supported by the architectural intelligentsia in academia and media, leaves anyone who fits not into one of these molds out in the cold. Urban Artistik is the warm fire.
The Urban Artistik philosophy is that all arts are interrelated and interdependent.
The city, town or village and the buildings therein are where the arts are expressed and the resultant economic activity engaged. Therefore the planning, design and development of communities and their buildings and open spaces is of paramount importance to the citizenry of every nation. Urban Artistik seeks to assist individuals, developers and whole communities in establishing built environments that provide egalitarian access to all the beauty and amenities of civic life, whether this is achieved by retrofitting existing areas or building on new land.
